Gerald entered the service as a nineteen year old draftee April of 1970 at Fort Lewis, Washington for Basic Training and AIT at Fort Sill, OK. He went directly to Vietnam after training as a 13A10 Field Arttilleryman. He was honorably discharged at Oakland, CA November of 1971 after completing a 14 1/2 month extended tour.
