Ron was a career firefighter, employed at the old Station 5 Fire House in Sioux City, retiring in 1986.

He was a member of the Sergeant Bluff American Legion Post 662 and had an integral part in building the veterans memorial in town. Ron had been a past president of the local AFA Chapter.
