Kelton entered the U.S. Army at Fort Snelling, MN at age 17  July 23, 1946 and completed Basic Training at Fort Knox, KY after which he was sent to Korea and was assigned as Chief Clerk in Special Services Section of Headquarters XXIV Corps.  Kelton received an Honorable Discharge June 2, 1948 at Camp Stoneman, CA
