Garry enlisted in the Army at the age of 17. Attended Basic Training with the 28th Inf at Fort Riley, Kansas in 1961.  Garry started his Army service time in aviation, first as a Aviation Clerk, then an Air Traffic Controller after attending the ATC Course at Keesler AFB in Biloxi, MS serving in Korea in 1963, then at Fort Leonardwood, Mo and attaining the rank as SP5.  After passing the boards for Warrant Officer Rotary Wing Aviator Course, he graduated from flight school June 7, 1967.  Assigned to 134th AHC at Fort Bragg, NC before being deployed to Vietnam by ship landing in Cam Rahn Bay on Thanksgiving Day 1967.  Assigned to Phu Hiep Army Air Field near Tuy Hoa AFB.  The 134th Flew many missions in support of the 173rd Airborne, Republic of Korea  (ROK) Divisions, MACV, and many other U.S. Divisions.  Many of these missions were flown during the TET Offensive of 1968.  Garry’s last assignment was with the 67th Aviation Company in Stuttgart, Germany prior to his Honorable Discharge date of 1/26/70.
