Carl entered the Army October 30, 1944 at the age of 18 years at Ft Snelling, MN.  At the time of his induction he was listed as a farmer in Plymouth County, Iowa.
Carl served with Company M, 2nd Inf Regiment,
5th Division as a Rifleman with the rank of PFC.  Carl was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon and the Army Good Conduct Medal.  Carl served until his discharge after 9 months, 21 days with 4 months, 25 days in Foreign Service and was received his Honorable Discharge at Fort Knox, Kentucky on January15, 1946
